Be Health
About the project
Be Health
In collaboration with my colleagues from Laboratoria, I had the opportunity to work with Aictive, a company dedicated to facilitating access to physical therapy through remote solutions powered by artificial intelligence. Our primary goal was to identify improvement opportunities in their pre-developed application. To achieve this, we employed various strategies, including heuristic analysis, benchmarking, and moderated testing.
Main Responsibilities
  • Applying Design Thinking methodology
  • Aligning design proposals with Aictive's business objectives
  • Conducting user testing
  • Creating user personas and affinity maps
  • Designed low, medium, and high-fidelity wireframes

Heuristic Analysis

Visibility of System Status

Clear information about the process on each screen, but with confusing hierarchy.

Recommendations

Improve categorization of elements (routines, times, cycles).

Add justifications with color accents for better understanding.

Display the total number of sessions available for clarity.

Relationship Between the System and the Real World

Clear and understandable text, but loses context when users leave their devices.

Recommendations

Include auditory information (voice notes and sounds).

Specify necessary materials for exercises.

Ensure uniformity in the language of exercise names.

User Control and Freedom

Allows users to go back or skip ahead in exercises, but lacks a pause option.

Recommendations

Integrate a pause function using body signals (e.g., clapping).

Include a mood and pain tracking feature.

Consistency and Standards

Meets iconography standards, but needs homogenization.

Recommendation

Improve wording in sections with pain scales for consistency.

Error Prevention

Lack of screen backtracking and reset options for routines.

Recommendations

Include a comment section for users to explain why they skipped exercises.

Recognition Rather Than Recall

The app is intuitive and easy to navigate.

Recommendation

Pain evaluation bars could be improved.

Flexibility and Efficiency of Use

Lacks flexibility for accessing routines from other menus.

Recommendation

Add an easy-access navigation and search bar.

Aesthetic and Minimalist Design

Clear and minimalist design, but needs improvements in colors and hierarchy.

Recommendations

Shorten phrases and increase spacing between elements.

Redesign elements like the hamburger menu and video display.

Helping Users Recognize, Understand, and Correct Errors

No visible section for user assistance.

Recommendation

Include a virtual assistant for questions.

Help and Documentation

No tutorial available when starting the app.

Recommendation

Add a tutorial for first-time users.

Poll

We created a poll and conducted it through Google Forms.

  • How satisfied are you with the Be Health App?
  • How likely are you to recommend the Be Health App?
  • Is it easy to navigate through the app?
  • How much total time did you use the app to complete the routines?
  • Do you think the app provides clear and sufficient information to use it intuitively?
  • What was the most challenging part when using the app?
  • What has been the main issue(s) you’ve encountered while using the app?
  • In one sentence, describe your experience using the app.
  • What would you change about the app?
  • How satisfied are you with the images and descriptions of the exercises?
  • What did you like most about the app?
  • What ideas do you have to improve the app?
Findings
  • No one is fully satisfied with the app, with most rating it a 2 (low satisfaction).
  • 62% believe the information provided is unclear, making the app non-intuitive.
  • 62% would not recommend the app.
  • Key improvement suggestions: add a startup guide (77%) and improve button color and visibility (88%).
  • 62.5% had difficulties performing exercises, negatively impacting usability.
  • Only 37.5% are satisfied with the images; 50% believe they could be improved.
  • While 50% used the app for more than half an hour, the process of detecting exercises is confusing and tedious.
  • Users find the AI aspect attractive but report issues with the colors, buttons, and app structure.

Moderate Usability Test

User testing was conducted with 9 participants aged 18 to 65. These users had the opportunity to follow the app's flow until completing a routine.

Findings/Recommendations
  • Switch the example video with the patient's image, and remove the white space.
  • The interface looks outdated and lacks personality.
  • Some icons overlap, making it uncomfortable to use.
  • The bottom bar is missing a home button, which confuses users.
  • The app contains very long texts that are often ignored.

Check

Interview

After building the medium fidelity wireframes we made a new poll with 3 users who interacted directly with our design.

  • Which of the two options did you find easier to use and understand?
  • Which one would you choose?
  • What would you say were the most important changes?
  • Would you use this app?
  • What do you think might be missing from the last version we showed you?
  • What do you think of the colors between one app and the other?
  • What do you think of the instructions for carrying out the routine?
  • How was your experience with the app's signage (icons)?
  • What do you think about the game tracking feature?
Findings
